December 4, 2013 Photo of the Day
1) Describe this photo in terms of Line, Shape, Color, Texture, Space, Form
The photo has a lot of texture from the brick walls and the tiled flooring. It also has bright colors like the guys jacket and the railing.
2) Describe this photo in terms of Balance, Repetition, Movement, Empasis, Rhythm.
The balance blends because it all comes together and allows the photo to focus on mainly the person walking. The sidewalks has tiles that have a lot of repetition in order to give it a pattern and the bricks also do. There's also the fact that the person walking is wearing the same
3) Thinking about the terms listed above which is most important and WHY?
I think balance is most important.

Response to James NachtweyIs the work of James Nachtwey snapshots or photography? Justify your answer with solid reasoning.
His work consists of photography not just snapshots because his work had a lot of detail, things that weren't just taken without thought. They were taken with much thought and precision that they become meaningful and deep.
What does he say about anger?
He said that anger needed to be channeled and turned into something positive.
Did you notice visual irony in his images?
No I don't think he has irony in his photography.
What is life like for him? For his subjects?
He said that he doesn't mind going through and photographing the things he does. He said doesn't mind being in the middle of conflicts as long as he captures the difficulties these people go through.
How does he do justice for the people he photographs? Does he do justice?
I don't think he makes a big difference in any of the peoples lives he photographs.
What is key to his work that makes it extraordinary and award winning?
He gets photographs of things that are a big deal, things that are touching/heartbreaking to see. He captures moments that catch peoples eyes and makes them feel something towards the picture.
Why does he do what he does?
He does this to make people feel something in his photos, he wanted to take action shots of interesting things.
What was most striking to you about the video and his work? Why? If nothing, why not?
The most striking thing to me was the fact that when he does take pictures of the sad things he said he doesn't really feel necessarily bad about it, and i think that's kind of shocking because I feel like if you were that passionate about what you're doing i thought that you'd have a little more feelings towards the situations you're involved in.
Why do you think he shoots mostly black and white?
I think that the black and white gives the photo a little more of an eerie look to it. I think it makes the picture look sadder than it would look in color.
What is the power of a photograph..if indeed you believe that a photo holds power? Does Nachtwey's work have power?
I think his work has a lot of power, because when i see his photography it makes me feel something towards the photograph. It makes me sad if it's a sad picture and happy if it's a happy picture.
